WORKSHOPS FOR 2026

These are designed to share some of the textile techniques which I use myself, including dyeing, stencilling and machine embroidery using materials and techniques which are straightforward to continue with yourself.  Materials are included but bring your own sewing machine if you can.

The workshops are based in my studio near New Galloway and for up to four people at a time, so everyone gets plenty of individual attention.  They cost £70 per person per day and normally run from 10.00-4.00.  I provide teas, coffees, and a light lunch.

If you are able get together a group of four then the cost is £250 per day for the group, and I can tailor make the workshop with dates to suit you.

To be kept informed of up-coming workshops please subscribe to my newsletter or if you would like to make a group booking or suggest an idea not listed below please get in touch.

The Workshops:

Woods and Wildflowers – 3 day workshop (can be 3 consecutive days or spread out).  A three-day workshop which will guide you through producing a quilted panel full of colour and detail, using a combination of dye-painting, stencilling, quilting and machine embroidery.

Garden Flowers – 2 day workshop  (can be 2 consecutive days or spread out)  dye a variety of fabrics which will then be machine-embroidered to create a colourful panel with 3D elements.

Two Day Tree – 2 day workshop  (can be 2 consecutive days or spread out) Using masking, painting and machine embroidery to create the silhouette of a tree against a colourful background, then adding texture and detail using machine embroidery and quilting.

Basic Machine Embroidery – Tricks and Techniques – 1 day workshop.  A one-day workshop learning techniques and producing samples based on some of the processes I use myself, including appliqué, quilting and some free-motion stitching.  Ideal for beginners, or anyone with basic sewing skills but wanting to find out what else they can do with their machine!

Creating Texture with Machine Embroidery – 1 day workshop.  Using free-motion embroidery to experiment and create different textures including quilting, applying and manipulating different fabrics, different machine stitching techniques and using water-soluble stabiliser.  You should go home with plenty of samples and ideas for future projects.

Dyeing for Landscapes – 2 day workshop (can be 2 consecutive days or spread out).  Techniques for using cold-water fibre-reactive dyes for dye-painting and to create a good range of colours and effects on cotton, linen and silk, then using these fabrics to create landscape panels.

“I have learnt so much and it  is great to be able to concentrate on just creating and stitching. Hospitality was spot on and the venue was wonderful.”

“Well planned and thought out, giving lots of time to “play” and experiment with examples”
